  • Research:
I study the structure and function of integral membrane proteins, specifically, transmembrane channels.

I manage a NIH/Protein Structure Initiative small specialized center - The Center for Structures of Membrane Proeins. The team I manage is attempting to express and crystallize the entire E. coli proteome as well as selected human membrane proteins. We design novel expression vectors and expression protocols to use and to deseminate to the wider scientific community. We also share our methods and techniques of expression of specific membrane proteins. My individual reseach focuses on trans-membrane water channels.
