  • Research:
Exploration of known and new classes of small RNAs

I am interested in the role non-coding RNAs play in the large phenotypic diversity present in eukaryotes, in particular the role of miRNAs and other small RNA sequences. miRNAs have been shown to be major regulators of mRNA levels in most eukaryotic organisms and their expansion correlates with the increase of complexity in bilaterian animals. Due to their size, small RNA function is likely linked to their nucleotide sequence they are well suited to be studied using a combination of high throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analyses.
