    I study chimeric genes in Drosophila melanogaster.

    We've found 14 chimeric genes in D. melanogaster through sequence comparisons. We have described their rates of formation, decay and preservation and compare these rates to those of duplicate genes. We have also described two genetic mechanisms that might form chimeric genes in D. melanogaster.
