Dr. Krongrad's research interest relates to prostate disease.

Chronic pain can affect many organ systems. In men, it can present as a complex of pain, urinary dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, and/or nonspecific constitutional complaints such as fatigue and disorientation. This complex of chronic prostatitis, a.k.a. chronic pelvic pain syndrome, can resist all proposed remedies and transform men into socially isolated invalids. We have discovered that prostatectomy can in many cases immediately, completely, and durably rid men of these symptoms. Our objective is to characterize the response and develop a scientific framework for clinical decision making.
