Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infects nearly 3% of the world's population and its complications (principally liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma) account for the leading indications for liver transplantation worldwide. My research focuses on identifying host factors that support HCV replication as these may be novel targets for antiviral therapies. I am particularly interested in the phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase PI4KA as HCV replication is strongly dependent on this kinase. I am in the process of characterizing the mechanisms by which PI4KA supports HCV replication.
