My current work is mainly focused on Olfactory Marker Protein (OMP) which is proposed to be a key member of Calmodulin (CaM) regulatory process in olfactory transduction. I am currently addressing the hypothesis: The Na/ Ca exchanger (NCX) activity the returns elevated intracellular Ca to prestimulus levels in OSN is modulated by intracellular interactions among OMP, CaM, and Bex1. I am also looking for OMP's unknown functional aspects ; influence of OMP on NCX activity, total cAMP generation and co-transporters (NKCC1) based analysis in Olfactory cilia. These coordinated analysis will provide a new insights to molecular mechanisms by which the olfactory transduction cascade is regulated and will broad impact on understanding OMP influenced CaM regulation of olfactory signal transduction.
