The research work was focused on the systematic clarification between
two closely related spider mites of Tetranychus hydrangeae and Tetranychus kanzawai. After
detailed study on morphology, cross-breeding and molecular techniques, it was confirmed that
T. hydrangeae is a synonym of T. kanzawai; and the species identified as T. hydrangeae is T.
merganser. Life history parameters (rm) at different temperature regimes and acaricide
mediate suppression with different acaricides were also studied. The intrinsic optimum
temperature and temperature threshold were also discussed to compare their life-history
parameters together with possible ways to control by using acaricides.
Molecular-molecular biological techniques together with cross-breeding experiments might provide new, definitive data on the question of the true taxonomic status of the mites.
