The objective of my present work is to create and study models of Basal ganglia function.

I am working on creating networks of spiking neurons of the different modules of the basal ganglia that incorporates accurate patterns of spiking and respond to input (neurotransmitters and neuromodulators) in a realistic fashion. I had also studied behavioural switching in the basal ganglia using saccadic eye movement and modelled the effect of learning in these networks based on the Reinforcement Learning (RL) paradigm.

Results: I have created and studied small networks of STN and GPe of simple Izhikevich type neurons and am working to improve and extend these models. I had also matched the results of my saccade models with the experimental literature and showed that the model is capable of learning task switching successfully.
