Virulence factors of the urinary tract pathogen Proteus mirabilis

My research focuses on the bacterial urinary tract pathogen Proteus mirabilis. My published work includes the sequence and annotation of our type strain genome, discovery of a type III secretion system in P. mirabilis, detailed analysis of a mechanism P. mirabilis uses for fimbrial control of flagellar expression, and investigation of oxygen regulation of fimbrial expression. Current projects include use of microarrays to study swarming motility and transcriptome analysis of P. mirabilis isolated from the urine of experimentally-infected mice.
