  • Research:
Design and analysis of logistics systems for physical goods, particularly at the facility level.

I am interested in problems of material storage and movement inside facilities, and especially in warehouses. My recent work has explored spatial aspects of material flows, as in the design of aisle networks in a warehouse to reduce labor costs of retrieving orders. My newest work seeks to understand some fundamental relationships of throughput and storage capacity for grid-based storage systems, using models based on the childrens' games Rush Hour and the 15-puzzle.
