  • Research:
Development of protein profiles of chemical exposure in small fish models using MALDI-TOF-MS and SELDI-TOF-MS.

Our research group, under the direction of Dr. Michael Hemmer, is responsible for the development of predictive in vivo protein profiles of chemical exposure in a small fish model. The profiles developed allow us to find patterns of exposure based on mode of action (MOA) and could potentially be used to screen unknown chemicals for specific MOA in a high throughput format. Additionally, we biologically validate the proteins/peptides of interest via tandem MS and relate the candidate biomarkers to traditional toxicological and genomic endpoints (histology, ELISA, mRNA, etc).
