  • Research:
My research uses tissue engineering approaches to construct in vitro models for neural tissues.

My research represents the convergence of basic neurobiology and biomedical engineering. I have used tissue engineering approaches to develop methods for modeling neural tissue in both 2-D and 3-D culture systems. I have used these culture systems to study neurotrophin signaling, neural cell foreign body responses to implantable neural prosthetic devices as well as the development and transport properties of the blood-brain barrier.
