  • Research:
Natural product biosynthesis and drug discovery from metagenomic environmental DNA extracts.

Our lab focuses on leveraging the genetic diversity found in terrestrial microbial communities to discover biosynthetic gene clusters from which we can derive novel natural products and enzymes from. I focus on utilizing two classes of halogenases which modify a diverse range of clinically important compounds as genetic handles to screen for novel natural products from the uncultured microbial majority.
