  • Research:
I'm studying the phylogenetic and functional diversity of microbes found on cold-water corals.

Using coral samples from the Gulf of Mexico and Norway, I'm comparing the diversity of microbes (including bacteria, archaea and fungi) found in the coral tissue and mucus. I'm interested at determining if there are any biogeographical relationships between the separate populations as has been shown in some shallow-water corals. We also want to see if the bacteria have any unique metabolic pathways in order to determine why certain species associate with the corals.
