My research focuses on the interaction between bacteria and solids. I am currently studying some of the chemical and physical properties that influence bacterial adhesion to solid surfaces and subsequent biofilm formation. These processes have wide ranging impacts, from the corrosion of oil pipelines to the dissolution of bone. I am also involved in the development of non-invasive techniques that allow for the detection and characterization of bacteria across multiple spatial scales.
