  • Research:
Multi-scale computational investigations of molecular scale physicochemical phenomena in geochemical and ceramic systems.

My research is focused on using multiple computational techniques that cross time and size scales to model geochemical and materials science phenomena on the molecular scale. During my graduate work, I employed density functional theory (DFT) calculations to determine the reaction mechanisms for the release of aluminum, silicon, magnesium, nickel, and calcium from silicate minerals, and I also used DFT molecular dynamics simulations via VASP to model the adsorption of water onto forsterite. During my post-doctoral appointment at Rutgers, I employed a multi-scale computational approach to model silicon carbide (SiC) and boron carbide (B4C) interfaces. At my current position at Michigan State University, I will be using classical molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the structure, dynamics, and energetics of aqueous/clay interfaces with respect to the interaction of pollutant species with these systems.
